BP Donates $2.5 million to support City of Texas City Parks Projects— BP Texas City Business Unit Leader Keith Casey presented Texas City Mayor Matthew T. Doyle and members of the Texas City Commission with a $2.5 million check for the City of Texas City to support three separate parks projects in different parts of the City.
The $2.5 million donation will support the creation and development of a visionary project being called “Central Park” - 200 plus acres in the northwestern portion of the City; “Magnolia Park” - about 50 acres in the central park of the city; and a new Sanders-Vincent Community Center in the eastern part of the city.
Combined, the three parks help bring to fruition a vision for recreation, green space and quality of life that city leaders have been developing for years.
“The city and citizens of Texas City have been partners in rebuilding our Texas City refinery,” said BP Texas City Business Unit Leader Keith Casey. “We thank them for their support and we are proud to participate in the city’s efforts to build an even brighter future for its citizens and the region.”
“We are extremely pleased to welcome this support in helping recognize and build the vision that we have for this city and to keep making it a better place,” said Texas City Mayor Matt Doyle. “This tremendous investment demonstrates confidence in our future and will go a long way toward establishing the true reality of our vision in a way that will provide green space, recreation and fine quality of life for future generations.”
BP’s $2.5 million contribution is a first installment on a $5.5 million contribution toward the Parks fund-including $2 million in 2009 and $1 million in 2010. Since 2005, BP has contributed about $11 million to various projects and organizations in the Greater Galveston County area, with a significant part serving initiatives in the immediate Texas city area.
