The first ever joint venture between the country’s leaders in outlet development, Tanger Factory Outlets Center, Inc. and Simon Premium Outlets, will be creating the new Gateway to Galveston.

Located on 55 acres along the heavily tourist driven Interstate 45 South, the new 350,000 sq. ft. branded Tanger Outets will be the premium shopping destination of the region. Taking its architectural aesthetics from both historic Texas City and the seaside community of Galveston, the new center is divided into four distinct districts where the shopper will meander through meticulously landscaped promenades, under trellis and bris soleil which converge in an open air center court aptly named Gulf Coast Promenade.

This scenic focal point of the center is home to a stylish yet contemporary food court, which will provide climate-controlled indoor seating as well as outside dining under umbrellas along the water’s edge. Complimentary Wi-Fi will be offered throughout the center.

There will be 90 leading brand name and designer outlet stores in Phase I. The $70.5 million project will create 400+ temporary construction jobs and 900 full- and part-time permanent positions in retail management and sales.

Located on a pristine stretch of Galveston Bay shoreline is the stunning community of Grand Cay Harbour. In Spring 2012, David Weekley Homes will unveil new home designs priced from the mid $200s. Most of the homes will be located on canals and some will have panoramic views of the wetlands overlooking Dollar Bay to the south, Moses Lake to the west, and a northeast view over Galveston Bay.

In Grand Cay Harbour, we’re proud to offer our EnergySaver Homes, backed by the Environments For Living® Platinum Level Program with a heating and cooling energy usage guarantee. Reduced energy consumption makes an EnergySaver Home less expensive to own, averaging 35% greater efficiency than a home built in 2006.

Nestled in a protected harbor, all David Weekley homes will feature slab foundations that offer greater stability. In addition to the natural beauty, residents will enjoy easy access to the Houston and Galveston, as well as deep-water access. This spring, come home to a community in Texas City that boasts more water and land-based recreational opportunities than any other community in the region.

For more information, contact David Weekley Homes at 800-758-3238 today!

“Explore a World of Great Tastes and Treasures”

Check out the Live and Silent Auction Items here: http://library.constantcontact.com/download/get/file/1104610490039-142/Auction+Program+2011.pdf

Loosen up your belts and prepare for some great cuisine prepared by our local culinary masters! To try some of the “great tastes” in town, make plans to attend the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce Annual “Taste of the Town” and Auction on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Nessler Center, 2010 5th Avenue N., Texas City.

Approximately 800 guests are expected to satisfy their appetites. A lot of tempting treats will be available for everyone to sample. Ticket holders will be able to sample a variety of foods from Bake Me a Dream, Benitos’ Mexican

Restaurant, Brownie Big Jaws, Carnes Banquet Room, Casa Ole, Clary’s Restaurant, Grand Prize BBQ, Gulf Greyhound Park, Joe’s BBQ, Kroger, Lazy Lizard Cantina & Restaurant, Mainland Medical Center, Robco Catering, Robinette Catering, Ryan’s Steak House, Schlotzsky’s, and Starbucks. There will be a lot of beverages from Del Papa Distributing, Dienst Distributing, Coca Cola Bottling Company and Sparkletts.

“Taste of the Town” advance tickets are $15.00 each and $20.00 each at the door and children (under 12) $7.50. The ticket entitles you to all you can eat and drink at the booths and entry/participation in the live and silent auctions and a chance to win a fabulous door prize. You can purchase tickets at the Chamber office or at Texas First Bank in Texas City . The Auction takes place immediately after the “Taste of the Town”.

We will also have an I-Pad Raffle. Purchase your raffle tickets for $5 each or 5 tickets for $20.00. Write your name and phone number on the tickets and drop in the box located by the Silent Auction tables. The Winner will be announced during the Live Auction at 9:00 p.m. Good Luck! Sponsored by TNT Signs & Graphics.

We urge you to bring your checkbooks, cash and credit cards and get ready to bid at the Auction! The Live Auction is very exciting and entertaining and goes pretty fast. The only requirements to participate in the Live Auction are to have an Auction Number for bidding and the ability to pay for the item. The Auctioneer will describe and explain each item. The Auctioneer will also display auction items. All items must be picked up and paid for at the end of the evening.

The Silent Auction is very popular because everyone is able to get in on the action. Silent bids are written down on the bid sheet, which is placed by the displayed item. The high bidder and winner of that item can pick up their merchandise after all Silent Auction biddings close at 9:00 p.m. This is a lot of fun and everyone enjoys going looking at the items on display to see what is being offered. There is something for everyone!

History of Texas City Featured in New Book

Local author celebrates Texas City through book of vintage photographs

New from Arcadia Publishing and local author Albert L. Mitchell is Texas City. This pictorial history is the latest volume in the popular Images of America series and affords readers a unique opportunity to reconnect to the history that shaped their community.

At 100 years old, Texas City is a relatively young city. It was founded not for its beauty or its climate but for its strategic location on the Gulf of Mexico. It developed into a major port city and industries sprang up and flourished. From bare acreage, the founders forged a community that would become a hometown to thousands of people.

Texas City has seen its highs and lows. The U.S. Air Force experienced its humble beginnings here, for instance. The same port, however, that gave life to the desolate land brought destruction in 1947 in the form of the Texas City explosion. A ship carrying ammonium nitrate blew up killing almost 600 residents, injuring thousands, and bringing damage to nearly every building in town.

Texas City recovered from the explosion and in the following decades continued to be a place of pride for its citizens. The pages of this book are filled with images dating from the 1950s and 1960s to bring back the feeling of a bygone era in Texas City.

Available at area bookstores, independent retailers, and online retailers, or through Arcadia Publishing at www.arcadiapublishing.com or (888)-313-2665.

Arcadia Publishing is the leading publisher of local and regional history in the United States. Our mission is to make history accessible and meaningful through the publication of books on the heritage of America’s people and places. Have we done a book on your town? Visit www.arcadiapublishing.com.
