DESCRIPTION:For some of the “Best Bites” in town, make plans to attend the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce Annual “Taste of the Town” and Auction on Tuesday, November 1st at the Nessler Center, 2010 5th Avenue N., Texas City. Loosen up your belts and prepare for some fine feasting on some great cuisine prepared by our local culinary masters! We should have about 25 food establishments with approximately 1,000 visitors expected to fill up on the tasty cuisine. There is going to be a lot of taste tempting treats to go around giving many people a chance to sample food and drink from an establishment that they’ve never tried before. Ticket holders will be able to sample a variety of foods from prime rib, crabmeat gumbo, soup, salad, Mexican food, seafood, pizza, sandwiches, meat and fruit and cheese trays, a variety of beer, wine, soft drinks and coffee. Live & Silent Auctions Donations for items now being taken for the 25th Annual Auction, which will take place immediately after the “Taste of the Town” on Tuesday, November 1st. There will be some really great Auction items again this year. The Live Auction is very entertaining and it goes pretty fast. The Silent Auction is very popular because everyone is able to get in on the action. Silent bids are written down on the bid sheet, which are placed by the displayed item. The high bidder and winner of that item can pick up their merchandise after all Silent Auction biddings close at 9:00 p.m. This is a lot of fun and everyone enjoys going around to look at the items on display to see what is being offered. Donations are now being accepted! Items used for the Auction are generously provided by donations from Chamber Members and area businesses. Items such as tickets for entertainment, dinners, gift certificates, merchandise, sports memorabilia, and trips would help to make this Auction an exciting event while also benefiting those businesses making a donation. By helping your Chamber of Commerce with the Auction, you are advertising your business to the many Chamber members who may become potential clients. You are also offering goodwill toward your present customers by showing support for the communities of Texas City and La Marque and surrounding area. Your Donation Please bring or mail your Auction donation to: Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce 9702 E. F. Lowry Expressway Texas City, Texas 77592-1717

SUMMARY:Trash Bash
DESCRIPTION:TRASH BASH 2012 Join us, Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, for the River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous Trash Bash at Rainbow Park/Hurricane Protection Levee in Texas City. Educating Texans about the benefits of cleaning up their own watersheds, how to prevent non-point source pollution, and then putting that knowledge to work to help protect Galveston Bay is the driving force behind Trash Bash. Trash Bash is specifically aimed at raising the public's environmental awareness. Other Trash Bash locations include: Armand Bayou, Bastrop Bayou, Buffalo Bayou, Dickinson Bayou, Virginia Point Peninsula Preserve, Seabrook, Texas City Hurricane Protection Levee, Baytown Nature Center, Lake Conroe, Lake Houston Marina, Little White Oak Bayou, Sims Bayou, White Oak Bayou – Ermel Elementary and Little Thicket Park. At the River, Lakes Bays 'N Bayous Trash Bash, volunteers pick up everything from tires, bottles, jugs, plastic bags, cans, paper, six pack rings, and other litter. Things that are thrown onto the side of the road harm our watershed before they eventually drift down stream into the bay and then into the Gulf. Annual watershed cleanups have been organized across the state for more than ten years. While it is good that more and more people are becoming involved in this great environmental awareness exercise, the amount of trash to be cleaned remains high every year. An Environmental Expo, lunch and refreshments will be provided for volunteers helping with the Trash Bash cleanup. There will also be entertainment, souvenirs and door prizes given. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. For more information or to register for the Trash Bash, call Lorrie Koster at (409)935-1408 or visit the Trash Bash website at www.trashbash.org.
