TRASH BASH 2012

Join us,  Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, for the River, Lakes, Bays ‘N Bayous Trash Bash at Rainbow Park/Hurricane Protection Levee in Texas City.

Educating Texans about the benefits of cleaning up their own watersheds, how to prevent non-point source pollution, and then putting that knowledge to work to help protect Galveston Bay is the driving force behind Trash Bash.  Trash Bash is specifically aimed at raising the public’s environmental awareness.  Other Trash Bash locations include:  Armand Bayou, Bastrop Bayou, Buffalo Bayou, Dickinson Bayou, Virginia Point Peninsula Preserve, Seabrook, Texas City Hurricane Protection Levee, Baytown Nature Center, Lake Conroe, Lake Houston Marina, Little White Oak Bayou, Sims Bayou, White Oak Bayou – Ermel Elementary and Little Thicket Park.

At the River, Lakes Bays ‘N Bayous Trash Bash, volunteers pick up everything from tires, bottles, jugs, plastic bags, cans, paper, six pack rings, and other litter.  Things that are thrown onto the side of the road harm our watershed before they eventually drift down stream into the bay and then into the Gulf.  Annual watershed cleanups have been organized across the state for more than ten years.  While it is good that more and more people are becoming involved in this great environmental awareness exercise, the amount of trash to be cleaned remains high every year.

An Environmental Expo, lunch and refreshments will be provided for volunteers helping with the Trash Bash cleanup.  There will also be entertainment, souvenirs and door prizes given.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.  For more information or to register for the Trash Bash, call Lorrie Koster at (409)935-1408 or visit the Trash Bash website at www.trashbash.org.
